What is the status of the war in Ukraine? Honestly, it depends on who you ask.
On Friday, May 5, in Florence, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell indicated that Kyiv would collapse “in a matter of days” without western military support. “Unhappily, this is not the moment for diplomatic conversations about peace. It’s the moment of supporting militarily the war,” continuing, “We cannot just finish because Ukraine is unable to defend itself and it has to surrender.”
The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres appears to be on the same page, telling El Pais out of Spain, “I believe that peace negotiations are not possible at this time,” as “both parties are convinced that they can win.”
We find China in the middle of this conflict as well, and last week Ryan Matta joined me to talk about China’s role in the great reset to the globalist new world order. This week, the NY Times on Friday reported that, “U.S. officials remain wary of any calls for an immediate cease-fire or peace talks, especially those coming from China.” The US diplomatic posture of China with regards to Ukraine sits in opposition to that of the EU and UN.
For example, in those same May 5 remarks, “Even if they are on the side of Russia, I think China has a role to play. China is a permanent member of the (UN) Security Council. China is the one who has the biggest influence in Russia.”
While President Trump lobbied in favor of ending the war during his CNN Town Hall on Tuesday, on the question of diplomacy or military escalation, the whole global regime appears on the side of the latter.
Last Tuesday, Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder announced new military funding, saying at a press conference, “Today, the Department of Defense announced a new security assistance package to reaffirm steadfast U.S. support for Ukraine, including to bolster its air defenses and sustain its artillery ammunition needs.” The $1.2 billion package is being provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
Additionally, US Attorney General Merrick Garland Russian Oligarch assets to Ukraine, reportedly to assist with rebuilding the country. The assets belong to Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeyev, a Russian media mogul who was charged last year with breaching sanctions imposed in response to the 2014 annexation of Crimea.
But what is the end game and what is the vision for the future of the region?
