Hey Ashe! Several comments, but first off a SINCERE thank you! I’ve followed your tweets throughout the trial, and no one has covered it like you have. You’ve done everyone on Twitter a service. You worked your tail off! I’ve read everything you’ve posted all week.
And I say this as a lawyer who’s practiced since 1997.
Some notes on a reply you made on Twitter/X today when someone asked you to handicap how the verdict might go:
1. You mentioned that there would be more mistrust/distrust of elections because of this trial. I don’t know if you realize it’s because of Mike Lindell.
2. His lawyer said something about holding Lindell to a PhD standard when he only has a HS education. With all the experts who testified that Lindell engaged in or was swayed by “science fiction,” this is a dumb thing to say.
It’s the same lawyer who was sanctioned for submitting a brief written by AI, and was caught literally with no pants on a Zoom hearing. He’s counsel of record because Lindell’s previous lawyers withdrew because they were owed several million in unpaid fees.
The Montgomery guy traded magic beans to Lindell & got a $1.8 million house out of the deal. His defense, like his election claims, is a pathetic joke.
3. If I were in an attorney-client relationship with Lindell, I would seek a conservatorship or guardianship for him, depending on the state. He is clearly not in control of his mental faculties. I’m at a loss that no family member has sought relief from a court to have him committed. He’s lit tens of millions of dollars on fire in pursuit of a fantasy no rational person could believe.
He owes Bob Zeidman $5 million from his foolish “bet” from the “Cyber Symposium.” Zeidman will be in front of Coomer in the inevitable bankruptcy proceeding.
4. Again, I applaud your on-the-scene journalism. Lindell, with his HS education, was easily swayed by con men he decided were experts. But he ran into actual experts in the field, and has embarrassed (and soon) bankrupted himself.
I’m afraid your judgment of the likelihood of his success is colored by your “priors,” that is, your belief that the 2020 election was corrupt.
His is a sad case of ignorance, proving the old maxim that “a fool and his money are soon parted.” He’s what layers call “NCM.” Non comped mentis.
My comment about jurors having doubts about elections was directly related to the evidence before them. Kill Chain clips, past Halderman speeches & positions, Antrim (and Halderman’s actions in that case), Dekalb, the DNI letter, key system features and explanations of adjudication. To be certain not all the jurors, but neutral jurors with no interest in or knowledge of elections, no biases on the issue like yours or mine, I theorize would think to themselves, “there’s gotta be a better way.” God bless.
